Providence College Swimming Competes At The BIG EAST Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming teams saw some great performance in the first day of the BIG EAST Swimming Championships hosted by the University of Pittsburgh on Wednesday, February 15.

On the women's side, junior Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y.), sophomore Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.), sophomore Samantha DeGroff (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.) placed tenth in the 800y freestyle relay with a time of 7:42.40, setting a new school record in the process. Schlich's leadoff leg of 1:53.23 was good enough to be the fourth fastest time of the Friar list for the 200y freestyle. In the 200y medley relay O'Neill, freshman Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.), freshman Meredith Pramer (Norwalk, Conn.) and junior Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.) placed tenth coming in at 1:49.50.

On the men's side, freshman John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.), freshman James Butler (Medfield, Mass.), freshman Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.), and junior Eric Burtchell (Pawtucket, R.I.) swam the 800y freestyle relay in 6:57.76, placing tenth. Fatigati's 1:44.03 leadoff leg places him sixth all-time of the Friar list in the 200y freestyle. In the 200y medley relay Fatigati, sophomore Andrew St. Pierre, senior Collin Casciano, and sophomore Michael Luiz ganared a time of 1:36.58, placing them tenth

The BIG EAST Swimming Championships, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh, will run through Saturday, February 18.
