OMAHA, Neb. - The 23rd-ranked Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by No. 3 Creighton, 3-0, Saturday night in a non-conference match played at Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Neb. The loss ended the Friars' five-game win streak as they are now 5-2. The Bluejays improved to 6-0.
Creighton jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead with both goals coming on set pieces. Ethan Finlay converted a penalty kick in the fourth minute, while Greg Jordan scored on a header off a corner kick in the 13th minute. The Friars finished with three shots in the first 45 minutes, including two on goal.
Finlay added a second goal in the 76th minute to complete the scoring. PC senior goalkeeper Jhojan Obando (Kissimmee, Fla.), who came into the match having not conceded a goal in 429:01, made two saves. Brian Holt also made two stops for Creighton as he collected his sixth consecutive shutout.
The Friars are back in action on Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 p.m. when they host Cincinnati in the BIG EAST Conference opener.
