Providence College Women's Soccer To Play Syracuse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's soccer team will travel to Syracuse for its second BIG EAST Conference matchup of the season on Sunday, September 18. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. The Friars are coming off a win in their first conference game against the St. John's Red Storm. Providence defeated St. John's, 2-0, with goals from seniors Laura Di Clemente (Blue Bell, Pa.) and Taylor Bartini (Suffield, Conn.).

The Friars took control of the game early, as Di Clemente scored on a ball from classmate Courtney Collins (North Wales, Pa.) in just the third minute of play. To extend the lead going into halftime, Di Clemente sent a cross in front of the goalmouth to Bartini who headed the ball past the goalkeeper to the far right corner. The Friars outshot the Red Storm, 8-6, with a 3-0 shots-on-goal advantage.

Di Clemente continues to the lead the team in points (11) on four goals and three assists. She is followed by Collins, who has notched three goals and two assists for eight points and Bartini, who has six points on three goals on the season. The game marked senior goalkeeper Caitlin Walker's (Metuchen, N.J.) fourth shutout of the season.

SYRACUSE (1-3-3, 0-1 BIG EAST): The Syracuse women's soccer team enters Sunday's game following a 1-0 loss to Connecticut on Thursday, September 15. The Orange was outshot by the Huskies, 14-6, unable to convert any into goals. Prior to the loss, the Orange posted two consecutive ties against Fairfield, 0-0, and Central Connecticut State, 2-2. Tina Romagnuolo, Jenna Rickan, Cecilia Borgstrom and Brittany Kinmond each have a goal on the season. Goalkeeper Brittany Anghel has posted three shutouts and has played in all 690:00 minutes of this season.

Against the Orange the Friars are 4-10-1 all-time including a 1-4 record over the past five years. The Friars fell to the Orange, 1-0, last year at Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
