Women's Tennis Defeats Holy Cross

WORCESTER, MASS. - The Providence College women's tennis team defeated Holy Cross 6-1, Wednesday afternoon in an exciting non-conference match played in Worcester, Mass.
The team won eight of its nine matches, marking the first team win of the season. Junior Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) swept opponent Molly Montgomery in a solid 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Fellow singles players, sophomore Maria Bernardez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and freshman Karen Ramirez (San Juan, PR) also played noteworthy games, both defeating their opponents by impressive margins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
In doubles play, Providence's freshmen duo of Taylor Corder (Corinth, MA) and Karen Ramirez (San Juan, PR) swept Holy Cross' Emma Rudnik and Jess DeSimone in a 8-0 match. All of Providence's doubles teams were victorious in Wednesday's match up.
The Friars play home on Tuesday, September 20th against Bryant University. Matches are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Providence College Tennis Courts.
