Annapolis, Md. - Providence diver Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.)concluded her outstanding sophomore season and finished 39th in a field of 51 at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship held at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. The three-day meet (Friday-Sunday, March 11-13) concluded yesterday with the platform diving competition.
Black scored well with the judges in her first of six total dives, as she executed a forward somersault in pike position that included two rotations. The dive earned her a score of 36.80. In her fourth dive, Black posted her highest score of the day (37.20) thanks to an inward 1 ½ somersault dive in pike position. Black finished with a combined score of 182.35.
The top 18 divers in the preliminary round made the finals cut. Connecticut sophomore Danielle Cecco won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
