PROVIDENCE, R.I. - - The Providence College men's basketball team (10-2) defeated the University of New Hampshire Wildcats (4-5) by the score of 67-52, on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Sophomore Gerard Coleman (Boston, Mass.) led the team with 20 points, while junior guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 17 points and season-high 12 assists. He also had seven rebounds leaving him three shy of a triple-double.

Freshman LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) had 11 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. The 12 boards also tied his season high.

Sophomore Kadeem Batts (Powder Springs, Ga.) came off the bench for the first time this season to contribute nine points and six rebounds in 18 minutes.

The Friars began the first half with a 16-7 run and did not trail heading into halftime. Providence led 29-23 at the intermission. Coleman led the team in first-half scoring with eight points.

New Hampshire answered in the second half holding a brief 34-32 lead with 15:26 left in the game. The Friars answered with an 11-1 run, including eight consecutive points from Council, to take the lead, 43-35. Providence would go on to lead by as many as 19 points (65-46).

With the victory, the Friars improved to 6-0 against New England opponents this season and extended their nonconference home winning streak to 19 games. The last time Providence lost a nonconference game at home was Dec. 21, 2009. PC also improved to 14-1 all-time against UNH, with the only Friars loss coming in 1930.

The Friars are back in action as they travel to intra-state rival Rhode Island to take on the Rams on Friday, Dec. 23. The game will be televised locally on Cox Sports, with the opening tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Ryan Center.
