SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TEXAS - The Providence College Friar men's basketball team was defeated by Iowa State, 64-54, on Friday, November 25 in the third round of the South Padre Island Invitational. The Friars arrived in South Padre Island Invitational having won their first two games of the Tournament at home, defeating Florida A&M, 87-65, on November 19 and Southern University, 59-53, on November 22.

The Cyclones man to man defense held the Friars to 24 points in the first half as Junior Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the team with 17 points, including two three-pointers. Chris Allen had 11 points to pace Iowa State over the first 20 minutes of action to a 28-24 lead.

In the second half, the Friars fought back and took the lead after opening the 2nd half with a 7-2 run, four minutes in after a Gerard Coleman (Boston, Mass) three pointer. However, that was the biggest lead the Friars got, as the Cyclones went on a 8-0 run. Iowa State closed out the win to improve to 4-1 on the season. The Friars suffered their first loss of the season and fell to 4-1.

Council led the Friars with 21 points and 3 assists. Coleman finished with 20 points and freshman LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) added 6 points and 6 rebounds.

Allen had 15 points and 2 rebounds to lead Iowa State. Royce White added 5 points and 16 rebounds. Providence College will return to action for its final game of the Invitational versus Northern Iowa at 10:00 p.m. EST.
