SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas. -- The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated, 79-62, by Northern Iowa in the final day of the South Padre Island Invitational in South Padre Island, Texas. With the loss, the Friars finish the tournament with a 2-2 mark and are 4-2, overall.

Providence came out sluggish in the first half as Northern Iowa continually built on it's lead until it reached a high of 15 points on three point shot by Matt Harrison with 2:50 remaining in the half. But the Friars got a spark with sophomore Lee Goldsbrough (Newcastle, England) made a jump shot at the buzzer and was fouled, bringing the Friars deficit to within ten points, (33-23).

In the second half, the Friars increased the intensity and started to chip away at the lead. PC started a 8-2 run with 17:06 remaining in the game when Bilal Dixon (Jersey City, N.J.) scored on a layup. The Friars came within six points (40-34) with 16:02 left in the game. Providence couldn't get any closer as the Panther's went on a 14-4 run, again extending the lead to 15 points (53-38).

Junior Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had an impressive game for PC with a game high 26 points. Freshman LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) added a career high 16 points.

Providence will return to action on Tuesday, November 29 versus Holy Cross at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 7:00 p.m.
