Smithfield, R.I. --The Providence College women's swimming team lost in a road meet in Kingston, to the University of Rhode Island, on Wednesday, November 16, by a score of 168-124
The swimming team was led by freshman Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) who won the 100y breaststroke event in 1:09.14 and fellow freshman Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.) who won the 400y IM event in 4:49.31. Federiconi placed second in that event only .31 seconds behind O'Neill. Junior Sam Schlich (Massepequa, N.Y.), sophomore Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.), sophomore Samantha DeGroff (Berlin, Conn.), and junior Erin Nanna (Westwood, Mass.) won the 200y freestyle relay event with a time of 1:40.94. Schlich also won the 100y freestyle event in 54.88.
The diving team was led by junior Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) who won her third consecutive 1m diving event with a score of 255.00 points. Junior Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) came in second place with 221.92 points.
The Friars men's and women's teams will travel to New London, Conn. to compete against the Coast Guard this Friday, November 18. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00p.m. The Friars do not return to Taylor Natatorium until January when they will host Maine on Saturday, January 14.
