PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to New Hampshire, 4-1, at Memorial Field in Durham, New Hampshire on Sunday, September 5.
New Hampshire took an early lead 1:17 into the game when Tori Welch scored a goal assisted by Whitney Frates. Kara Connolly added on another goal for the Wildcats later in the half to make it a 2-0 game. With under five minutes remaining in the first half, Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) scored the first goal of the season for the Friars when she scored off a rebound. Despite being tied it shots, 7-7, New Hampshire held a 2-1 advantage at the half.
New Hampshire added two more goals in the second half from Kyle Lyons and another from Whitney Frates, to give them a 4-1 lead.
New Hampshire held the advantage in shots, 16-10, and a slight edge in penalty corners, 9-8.
Providence will take on No. 7 Michigan State on Friday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. in East Lancing, Mich. The team will then travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to face Central Michigan on Saturday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m.
