Providence College Field Hockey Travels To No. 5 Connecticut

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (2-6, 0-0 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team returns to action on Friday, September 24 when it travels to No. 5 Connecticut at 7:00 p.m. The game will be held at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn. The Friars are coming off consecutive, 2-0, victories against Northeastern on September 15 and Columbia on September 19.

Senior Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) leads the team in scoring this season with six points on two goals and two assists. Senior Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) has scored two goals for four points. Junior goalkeeper Shannon DiStefano (Longmeadow, Mass.) registered two shutouts last week. DiStefano has posted a 1.51 goals against average and a .765 save percentage in 370 minutes of action.

Last season, the Friars fell to the Huskies, 4-0, in Providence R.I. Following the game versus UConn, the team returns to action on Saturday, October 2, when it hosts No. 9 Syracuse at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, October 3, the team will face No. 19 Albany in Providence, R.I. at 2:00 p.m.

UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT (6-1, 1-0 BIG EAST): No. 5 Connecticut enters the match coming off a 4-0 victory against No. 14 Drexel on September 19. Freshman Anne Jeute leads the Huskies in scoring this season with 10 points. She has posted four goals and two assists on the season. Junior Cara Silverman also has been an important part of the UConn offense, scoring four goals. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Mansfield has seen the majority of time in cage for Connecticut this season. In 474 minutes of action, she has registered a 0.57 goals against average and a .889 save percentage.
