Women's Tennis Subdued by Syracuse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
It was a humbling homecoming for the Providence College women's tennis team as they were defeated by the Syracuse Orange, 7-0, on Saturday, March 27. The contest marks the first home match for the Friars since October 1, 2009 when the Friars faced Rhode Island. With the loss, the Friars are now 2-9 in the spring season, 5-10 on the year and 0-4 in the BIG EAST. With the win, the Orange is now 14-2 on the year and undefeated in BIG EAST action at 4-0.
In doubles play, freshman Marisela Aviles-Duron (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) and junior Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India) combined to win a team-high four games.. The Friars ultimately fell to the Syracuse tandem of Emily Harman and CC Sardinha, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, the Friars dropped all matches in straight sets.
The Friars are back in action this Wednesday, March 31 as they travel to Fairfield, Conn. to take on Sacred Heart. The contest is set for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
