PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College freshman guard Gerard Coleman (Boston, Mass.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday, November 29. Coleman earned the honor after averaging 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists as the Friars posted a 1-1 mark in two games at the Cancun Challenge last week. Coleman is the first PC player to earn Rookie of the Week honors since Vincent Council received the accolade on January 18, 2010.
Coleman scored 12 points and recorded four rebounds in the Friars' 84-73 loss to La Salle on November 23. On November 24, he registered 15 points and four rebounds in an 84-77 win over Wyoming.
Coleman, who attended the Tilton School last year, ranks third on the team in scoring at 10.8 points per game.
The Friars (5-1 overall) will return to action tonight versus Centeral Connecticut at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 7:00 p.m.
