Providence College Field Hockey To Face Villanova And Vermont

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (2-9, 0-2 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team will play a pair of games over the holiday weekend. On Saturday, October 9, the Friars will travel to face BIG EAST Conference rival Villanova at 1:00 p.m. The game will be held at Villanova Stadium in Villanova, Pa. On Monday, October 11 the squad will host Vermont at noon. The game will be played at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. The game can be viewed via tape delay on Cox 3. The game is scheduled to air on Wednesday, October 13 at 8:00 p.m. The Friars enter the match after falling to No. 17 Albany, 3-2, on October 3.

In the loss against Albany, senior Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) provided a goal and an assist for the Friars. Hudson leads the team in scoring this season with three goals and one assist for seven points. Senior Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) has tallied six points on the season registering two goals and two assists. Junior goalkeeper Shannon DiStefano (Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Kathi Weidman (Millersville, Pa.) have split time in cage this season. DiStefano has made six starts and has seen 440 minutes of action. She has posted a 1.59 goals against average and a .778 save percentage. Weidman has made five starts and seen 330 minutes of action. She has registered a 3.60 goals against average and a .630 save percentage.

Last season Providence defeated Villanova, 4-2, in Providence, R.I. The Friars are 6-3 against the Wildcats under Head Coach Diane Madl and have won the past five meetings.

VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY (3-7, 0-2 BIG EAST): Villanova enters the match coming off a 2-1 overtime loss against Rider on October 6. Dana Ramsden leads the team in scoring with 13 points on six goals and one assist. Lauren Wuzzardo has tallied four goals and one assist for nine points. Megan Goelz is the only goalkeeper who has seen time for the Wildcats. In her 706 minutes of action, she has registered a 2.57 goals against average and a .711 save percentage.

UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT (5-7, 0-1 AMERICA EAST): In Vermont's last match, it defeated Siena, 1-0, on October 3. Taylor Silvestro leads the Catamounts with six goals for 12 points. Brittanie Booker has registered five goals and one assist for 11 points. Brooke Crane has seen 872 minutes in the cage for Vermont. She owns a 2.57 goals against average and a .765 save percentage. Before meeting the Friars, Vermont will square off against New Hampshire on October 9.
