PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's soccer (9-6-2, 3-5-2 BIG EAST) was defeated by Pittsburgh (6-10-2, 3-6-1 BIG EAST), 2-0, on Friday, October 22. The Panthers took an early lead in the first half and tacked on another goal in the second half to earn the victory.
The panthers took the lead just 1:45 into the first half. Liz Carrol crossed the ball into the box off of a corner kick, the Friars failed to clear it and Christina Nicassio scored her second goal of the season. Providence held an edge in shots, 6-3, but Pittsburgh's goalkeeper Marie Kephart came up with four saves to keep the Friars off the board in the first half.
In the 79th minute, Pittsburgh took a 2-0 lead behind Dana Delleefemine's third goal of the season. Katelyn Ruhe crossed the ball to Delleefemine who buried the ball into the left side of the net. For the match, Friars held an edge in shots, 18-9, including an advantage in shots on goal, 7-4, but could not get on the board.
The Friars finish up their 2010 regular season when they travel to take on West Virginia on Sunday, October 24, at 1:00 p.m.
