PROVIDENCE, R.I. - PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (4-11, 0-4 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team returns to action when it travels to face cross-town rival Brown, on Wednesday, October 20. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. on the Warner Roof on the Brown campus. The Friars enter the matchup coming off a, 2-1, victory against California on October 17.
In the victory against California, Jaime Lipski (Dallas, Pa.) scored her second goal of the season. Christie Lonsky (Dingmans Ferry, Pa.) also scored her second goal of the season when she provided the game-winning tally for the Friars. Sophomore goalkeeper Kathi Weidman (Millersville, Pa.) registered six saves in the match. For her efforts last week, she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. In 575 minutes in cage she has posted a 2.80 goals against average and a .662 save percentage. Senior Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) leads the Friars in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist. Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.) is second on the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two.
In last season's match, Providence defeated Brown, 3-2, in Providence, R.I. The Friars are 6-2 against Brown under Head Coach Diane Madl and have won the past six meetings.
BROWN UNIVERSITY (2-10, 1-3 IVY LEAGUE): Brown enters the match after a 7-1 loss against No. 4 Princeton on October 16. Abigail Taft leads the Bears in scoring with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. Leslie Springmeyer is second on the team in scoring with 16 points on seven goals and two assists. Lauren Kessler has seen 754 minutes in cage. She owns a 3.62 goals against average and a .685 save percentage.
