WASHINGTON, D.C. - Playing their fourth non-conference road game of the season, the Providence College Friars earned an exciting 110-97 victory at George Washington on December 9. The Friars were paced by some hot three-point shooting in which they connected on 16 of 29 attempts (55.2 percent). The 16 threes tied for the second highest single-game total all-time at PC (twice the Friars have hit 17 threes in a game).
Senior Sharaud Curry (Gainesville, Ga.) hit three threes and fished with 13 points. He also recorded a career high 13 assists. Curry was just one of six Friars to score in double figures. Junior Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) led the team with 19 points. Sophomore Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn , N.Y.) and freshman Bilal Dixon (Jersey City, N.J.) each recorded 18 points. Peterson also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to record his sixth double-double in 10 games. Senior Brian McKenzie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was 4-5 from three-point territory and finished with 17 points, while freshman Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out double-figure scorers with 10 points.
The Friars opened the game pouring in threes, making 10 on 16 attempts in the first 20 minutes of action. With 2:05 remaining in the half, Curry hit a jumper in the lane to extend the PC lead to seven points (53-46). PC hit three more free throws to close the half with a 10-point lead (56-46). In the second half, the Friars maintained a double-digit lead for most of the final 20 minutes. PC's lead never got lower than nine points and grew to 15 points twice.
The 110 points scored by PC was the most since the Friars scored 111 in a win over Sacred Heart on November 20, 2008.
Lasan Kromah led GWU with 22 points and Damian Hollis chipped in with 21 points.
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, December 12 at 7 p.m. against Iona at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
