NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated at Notre Dame in its BIG EAST opener, 93-78, on Wednesday, Jan. 30. The Friars were led by sophomore Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and senior Sharaud Curry (Gaineville, Ga.) who scored 24 and 23 points, respectively.

The Fighting Irish used some hot perimeter shooting in the first half to build a 21-point lead at halftime, 53-32. Jonathan Peoples was 5-5 from three-point territory in the first half to lead ND, which was 9-16 (56.3 percent) from behind the arc. Peterson and Curry each had 10 for the Friars.

In the second half, the Friars opened with a 13-1 run to cut ND's lead to nine points (54-45) with 15:48 left in the game. However, the Friars could not manage to get any closer than nine points in the second half.

Junior Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) was the only other Friar to score in double figures as he added 12 points.

Peoples led Notre Dame with 23 points.

The Friars will return to action on Sunday, January 3 at St. John's. The game will begin at 5:30 p.m. and can be seen on Cox.
