KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (10-15) fell to the University of Rhode Island (8-14, 1-8) by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday, October 27 at Keaney Gymnasium in Kingston, R.I. The Rams won the match in straight sets, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-10. The contest will be shown via tape delay on Cox Sports 3 on Thursday, October 29 at 9:00 p.m.
Senior outside hitter Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.) led the Friars with six kills and hit at an impressive .385 mark. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Hendel (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) added six kills and three digs for PC, while sophomore Carly Morrison (Larkspur, Calif.) set up the Friar offense with 13 assists. Freshmen defensive specialists Cassie Muzzonigro (Gibsonia, Pa.) and Shelby Spicer (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) each notched 10 digs to pace the team's back line.
URI held a 39-to-22 advantage in kills for the match and posted 38 digs to the Friars' 31. Caitlyn Welsh led the Rams with match highs of 11 kills and 13 digs.
The Friars conclude the 2009 season on Wednesday, November 11 with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y.
