DURHAM, N.H. - The Providence College field hockey team defeated the Maine, 4-0, in non-conference action on Sunday, October 25. The game was played at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H. It marked the Friars' third-consecutive victory and second shut-out win in a row.

Senior Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) gave the Friars a 1-0 lead just 7:25 into the game with her team-best 13th goal of the season. Poulin knocked the ball into the right side of the cage off a feed from junior Julie Ruggieri (Barrington, R.I.). Senior Megan Montecalvo (Ipswich, Mass.) tallied her second goal of the season at the 31:16 mark to give PC a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime. Montecalvo has recorded a goal in each of the Friars' last two games.

In the second half, junior Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) tipped in an initial shot taken by Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.) at the left post to give Providence a 3-0 lead (59:15). Marois earned the assist on the play and has now tallied at least one point in each of the Friars' last six games.

Freshman Nicole Fernandez (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 62:22 mark. The goal was unassisted, as she gained control of a loose ball in front of the cage and slipped it past Maine's goalkeeper.

Providence goalkeeper Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) posted her second shut-out victory of the season with five saves and helped the Friars' to their fourth shutout overall. The Black Bears entered the game averaging 4.25 goals per game and it marked just the third time all season they had been held scoreless. Maine's Brittany Fleck recorded six saves in goal.

The Friars held a 16-10 advantage in shots, including an 11-5 edge in shots on goal. Providence also held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Providence returns to action on Friday, October 30 against Boston University at 3:00 p.m. The game will be played at M.I.T. in Boston, Mass. The Friars conclude their regular-season schedule on November 1 against Vermont at 1:00 p.m. in Burlington, Vt.
