Providence, R.I.- Providence College women's soccer (7-7-3, 2-5-2 BIG EAST) hosts divisional rival Pittsburgh (7-4-5, 2-2-5 BIG EAST) on Friday, October 23 on Glay Field at 3:00 p.m. The two teams have met nine previous times, with Providence going 2-5-2 against the Panthers. The last time Providence defeated Pittsburgh was in 2007 when the Friars won, 2-1.
Pittsburgh is currently one spot ahead of Providence in the BIG EAST American Division standings and the game has playoff implications with both teams only having one game remaining following Friday's match. Providence will host West Virginia and Pittsburgh travels to Connecticut on Sunday, October 25.
The Friars are looking to bounce back after two road BIG EAST games where they were defeated on Friday, October 16, by DePaul, 1-0 and by No. 7 Notre Dame, 2-0, on Sunday, October 18.
On the season, the Friars hold an edge over opponents in shots, 226-191, with 89 shots being on goal. They also have held opponents to an average of one goal per game. The Panthers are 7-4-5 overall and 2-2-5 in the BIG EAST. They are coming off a 3-0 loss to Georgetown on Friday, October 16 and a 0-0 double-overtime tie against Villanova on Sunday, October 18. Opponents hold a slight edge over Pittsburgh in shots, 224-200 and shots on goal, 102-95.
In net, Morie Kephart has started 12 games and has a 0.46 goals against average and a 0.919 save percentage. Kephart's has a 2-2-1 record and has notched two shutouts.
Pittsburgh's Ashley Cuba leads the team in goals (seven), assists (three) and points (17). Second on the team in scoring is Ashley Habbel with two goals.
