Providence, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team defeated Brown, 3-2, on Tuesday, October 20. The Friars improve their record to 6-9 on the season.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead at the 12:48 mark as senior Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) tipped in a goal off an initial shot taken by senior Adrienne Marois (Auburn, Mass.). Marois was credited with the assist on the play. Brown responded with a goal at the 22:51 mark when Katie Hyland scored off a penalty corner to tie the game, 1-1, with assists from Leslie Springmeyer and Michaela Siego. Kelly Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) put the Friars back on top, 2-1, when she scored late in the first half (30:05). Jaime Lipski (Dallas, Pa.) provided the assist on the goal. This was the fourth-consecutive game in which Grogan has scored a goal.
Ashlyn Hudson (Stoughton, Mass.) gave the Friars a 3-1 lead in the second half with a goal at the 39:25 mark. Nicole Fernandez (Tewksbury, Mass.) provided the assist on the play. Brown was able to get within one goal (3-2) when Siego scored off an assist from Katie Hyland at 64:21.
Providence held the advantage in shot, 19-5, and in penalty corners, 12-3.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, October 24 when they host BIG EAST Conference opponent Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. There will be a pre-game ceremony to honor all eight senior members of the team.
