Providence Tennis Competes at Sacred Heart Doubles Tournament

The Providence College women's tennis team opened its 2008 fall season on Sunday, September 7 in Fairfield, Conn. at the Sacred Heart Doubles Tournament. Matches were originally set for Saturday, but due to weather conditions, the tournament was delayed until Sunday.

Representing the Friars in the No. 1 spot was the duo of seniors Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.). In the No. 2 position was junior Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) and sophomore Ayushi Sinha (Mumbai, India). Splitting time in the No. 3 slot was the duo of sophomores Liz Gillis (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and Courtney Fuller (Newtown, Conn.) as well as senior Katie-Sue Scullin (Liverpool, N.Y.) and freshman Melanie Albert. Scullin and Albert were the only Friars on the day to earn a win, when they defeated Sacred Heart's Kristina Chao and Lindsey Scierka, 8-7.

The Friars face their first head-to-head matchup of the season on Saturday, September 13 when they travel to in-state rival Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Matches are set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
