The Providence College volleyball team dropped its first match of the Maine Tournament, falling 3-2 to the host Black Bears on Friday, September 5. Maine won the match with game scores of 25-18, 25-19, 24-26, 23-25 and 15-3. The defeat puts Providence at 3-3 on the season, while Maine improves to 3-2.
Freshman Lauren Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) tied for the team lead with 10 kills in the match. Fletcher now has 33 on the season, good for third place among Friar attackers. Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) provided another strong effort for Providence, also registering 10 kills and adding four total blocks. On the defensive front, senior Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) contributed a team-high 11 digs. Senior co-captain Sarah Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) added 32 assists, five digs and three kills for the Friars.
Providence plays another two matches in the Maine Tournament on Saturday, September 6. The Friars face Kent State at 10:00 a.m. and battle Quinnipiac at 4:00 p.m.
