Providence, R.I. -- The Providence College women's soccer team defeated Holy Cross 3-0 on Thursday, September 4 at Glay Field. The Friars stay undefeated on the season with a 3-0 record. Holy Cross falls to 0-3.
The scoring started in the 23rd minute as senior Christie Gent (Plantation, Fla.) sent a corner towards junior Jill Camburn (Doylestown, Pa.). Camburn deflected the ball off her head into the back of the net, making the Friar lead 1-0. In the 42nd minute, the scoring continued as Gent sent another corner into the Holy Cross box. After being deflected from Camburn, freshman midfielder Courtney Collins (North Wales, Penn.) took a shot into the bottom right corner of the net, improving the PC lead to 2-0.
The second half resembled the first as Providence controlled the tempo at midfield. In the 48th minute, after receiving the ball deep in the Crusader zone, sophomore Kate DelCiampo (Wethersfield, Conn.) sent a pass to senior Kelly Pettersen (Massapequa, N.Y.). Pettersen sent the ball past goalkeeper Jessica Stone to give Providence a 3-0 lead.
Goalkeeper Jill Schott (Windham, N.H.) was credited with her second straight clean sheet. She made three saves on nine Crusader shots during the game. Stone made seven saves on 16 Friar shots.
Providence's homestand will conclude on Sunday, September 7 as the Manhattan Jaspers come for their first visit to Glay Field. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
