PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team (13-9, 4-6 BIG EAST) defeated the DePaul Blue Demons (9-13, 4-6 BIG EAST) by the score of 79-65 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Tuesday night.

Leading the Friar offense was junior center Randall Hanke (New York, N.Y.), who finished with 21 points. Sophomore guard Dwain Williams (San Diego, Calif.) added 20 points for PC. It was the first time since January 17th at UConn that Providence had two players tally at least 20 points.

Junior forward Geoff McDermott (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore guard Brian McKenzie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) poured in 11 points apiece. McDermott tallied his sixth double-double of the season, the 20th of his career, pulling down 10 rebounds.

For the game, Providence shot 56.0 percent (28-of-50) from the field and held the Blue Demons to 38.3 percent. The Friars were able to control the battle of the low-post, scoring 34 points in the paint.

After trailing by seven (35-28) at the half, the Friars shot 65.4 percent in the second half to outscore DePaul 51-30 in the final 20 minutes. The 51 points are the highest number of points PC has scored in one half during BIG EAST play this season.

PC trailed by two, 40-38 with 15:52 to play in the second half, but went on a run to regain the lead. The Friars used seven consecutive field goals to power a 23-5 run over the next 7:30 and opened up a 61-45 lead.

The Friars return to action Saturday, February 9, when they travel to St. John's. The game will tip at Noon and be televised locally by Cox.
