LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Louisville, 82-57, during BIG EAST Conference play on February 26 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky. Angel McCoughtry netted a game-high 26 points and three steals to go along with a team-best seven rebounds for the Cardinals. Providence was led by sophomore Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.), who scored 13 points. Junior Shantee Darrian (Trenton, N.J.) contributed a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Friars led by as many as eight (16-8) in the first half with 13:46 left on the clock as PC started the game 7-11 from the field. Louisville's Patrika Barlow tied the game (27-27) on two free throws with 7:35 on the clock and went ahead (29-27) less than a minute later on a lay-up from McCoughtry. PC tied the game (29-29) at the 5:54 mark, but the Cardinals took off on a 15-2 scoring run to earn a 13-point advantage (44-31) with 39-seconds on the clock. Dorsey hit a three-point bucket for Providence to close the half and get the Friars within 10 at the break (44-34).

Providence got within six points (49-43) with 14:52 remaining in the game and still had the Cardinals in their sights with 10:41 left on the clock, trailing 55-48. However, Louisville would close out the game with a 27-9 scoring advantage to earn the 82-57 win. The stretch started with a 13-1 scoring run that spanned six minutes giving Louisville a 19 points lead (68-49) with 4:36 left in the game. Providence also lost freshman Mi-Khida Hankins (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.) to foul trouble. Hankins earned her fifth foul with 9:23 on the clock and Cournoyer followed at the 5:52 mark.

Cournoyer finished the night with 10 points on 4-9 shooting from the field. Hankins netted eight points after shooting 4-6 from the field.

Louisville also got big offensive contributions from Candyce Bingham and Chauntise Wright, who scored 18 points apiece.

Providence returns to action on Saturday, March 1 against Georgetown. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
