Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Providence College men's basketball team fell to Boston College by a score of 81-76 on Saturday, December 20 at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Senior Jeff Xavier (Pawtucket, R.I.) led the Friars with 16 points.

Boston College jumped out to a 13-5 lead and led 25-14 at the 9:12 mark of the first half behind seven early points from junior Joe Trapani. A three-pointer by Jeff Xavier cut the BC advantage to 27-21 with 6:49 remaining in the half but the Eagles entered intermission with a 35-26 lead.

Both teams shot under 35 percent from the field in the first half and the Eagles outrebounded Providence, 18-17. Xavier paced the Friars with seven first-half points on three-of-seven shooting.

The Friars trimmed the BC advantage to 39-33 at the 15:22 mark of the second half and a three-point play by senior Weyinmi Efejuku (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) moved the Friars to within two with 13 minutes to play in the game. The Eagles responded with a 7-0 run to extend the lead back to nine, 49-40, with 10:40 to go. Behind seven points from Rice, BC moved the lead to 66-52 with 4:15 remaining.

The Friars outscored BC 22-10 over the next 3:46 and trailed by two, 76-74, with 29 seconds left in the contest, but could not take the lead in the game's final minute.

Sophomore Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) scored all 13 of his points in the game's final five minutes to give the Friars a chance at the end. PC shot 76.5 percent from the free throw line in the second half and outscored BC in the paint by a score of 44-30 for the game. Senior Weyinmi Efejuku (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) chipped in 13 points and four rebounds for the Friars.

Providence is back at the Dunkin' Donuts Center for a 7:00 p.m. contest with Bryant on Monday, December 22.
