Providence, R.I. - The Providence College men's basketball team (8-4) defeated Bryant University (1-9) by a score of 91-64 on Monday, Dec. 22 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Friars shot 55.2 percent from the field, including a blistering 80 percent in the second half, en route to the victory. Sophomore Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) paced the squad with 18 points in the game.

"I'm happy with the progression of our team," Providence Head Coach Keno Davis said. "Every time I see us play, we look better."

A lay-in by junior Sharaud Curry (Gainesville, Ga.) gave the Friars an early 12-9 lead but Bryant used a 6-0 run to build a 15-12 advantage at the 14:23 mark of the first half. PC responded with a 13-4 run of its own to take a 25-19 lead and entered intermission up 42-30.

Senior Geoff McDermott (New Rochelle, N.Y.) paced the Friars with 12 first-half points and Providence outrebounded the Bulldogs by a 27-to-13 margin in the stanza.

A three-pointer by senior Weyinmi Efejuku (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) extended the Friar lead to 49-32 in the opening minutes of the second half and another three by Curry moved PC ahead, 63-38 with 14:22 to go in the game. A Brooks layup put Providence ahead 75-49 at the 9:51 mark and a strong finish by Efejuku gave Providence its largest lead at 83-53. Randall Hanke (New York, N.Y.) swished a 20-footer to give the Friars a 89-59 advantage with 3:47 to go and PC held on for the victory.

Curry registered 16 points and four steals while McDermott chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds. PC shot 38.5 percent from the three-point line for the game. The Friars are now 4-0 following a loss this season.

The Friars are off for holiday break until Wednesday, December 31 when they take on St. John's at the Dunkin' Donuts Center at 4:00 p.m. in the BIG EAST opener for both teams. Tickets can be purchased by calling (401) 865-GOPC.
