Orem, Utah - The Providence College volleyball team lost to Texas-Pan American, 3-1, on Saturday, November 22 at the National Independent Tournament in Orem, Utah. The Lady Broncs won the match with game scores of 25-15, 25-27, 26-24 and 25-20. With the defeat, Providence falls to 15-19, while UTPA improves to 7-18.
In the second game of the contest, senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) moved into second place on PC's all-time games played list, passing Colleen Lee. The middle blocker has played 451 games in her Friar career. Senior Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) has played in 448 and is currently tied for third place with Lee.
The Friar attack was extremely efficient in the match, with three players posting double-digit kill totals. Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) led the charge with 16 kills and contributed four total blocks. The 6-0 middle blocker now has 393 kills on the season. Junior Abby Majewski (Sunderland, Mass.) added 13 kills, while Toney finished third on the team with 10. Senior Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) had another strong defensive effort for the Friars, posting 20 digs.
Providence wraps up the 2008 season later today with a 2:00 p.m. showdown against Cal-State Bakersfield.
