Providence, R.I. -

The Providence College volleyball team will travel to Orem, Utah to compete in the National Independent Tournament on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22. PC will face NJIT (11:00 a.m.) and Utah Valley University (3:00 p.m.) on Friday and Texas-Pan American (10:00 a.m.) and Cal State-Bakersfield (2:00 p.m.) on Saturday. The Independent Tournament will wrap up the 2008 season for the Friars, who look to finish the weekend above .500 for the second-straight season. PC is currently 15-16 on the year.

Last time out, the Friars fell to Rhode Island, 3-0, on Wednesday, November 12 in Mullaney Gymnasium. Senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played a strong all-around match for the Friars, recording eight kills and 11 digs. In the match's third game, the 5-10 middle blocker tied Sherryl Jones for fourth place on Providence's all-time games played list with 441. Senior Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) moved into fifth place with her total of 438.

The Friars will play a minimum of 12 games over the weekend, meaning Toney will move second place all-time at PC in games played. Sheehan will move into third place at the conclusion of the tournament.

Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) looks to finish the season as the most accurate hitter in PC history. The 6-0 middle blocker's .400 hitting percentage currently ranks 14th in the nation and is the best total in Providence single-season history. Her career percentage also ranks first in the Friar record books.
