PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Hartford, 77-60, in its 2007-08 home opener at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Hartford's Danielle Hood poured in a game-high 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and hit seven-of-nine free throws on the night. Junior Shantee Darrian (Trenton, N.J.) hit for a career-high 17 points for Providence.

The Friars trailed by just eight points at halftime (39-31) and Hartford went on to outscore Providence, 38-29, in the second half. The Hawks shot an impressive 54.7-percent from the field for the game, hitting 29-of-53 shots. The Friars started strong from the field in the first half at 39.3-percent (11-28), but made just eight field goals in the second half on 25.8-percent shooting (8-31).

Joining Hood in double figures for Hartford was Diana Delva (15 points) and Katie Kelly (13 points). Four Hawks grabbed a team-best five rebounds. Lisa Etienne dished five assists.

Sophomore Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.) came off the bench to score nine points for Providence. In addition to leading the team in scoring, Darrian also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, including four off the offensive glass. Sophomore Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) dished five assists.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, November 17 against Iona at 2:00 p.m. The game will be played at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
