Women's Cross Country Captures NCAA Northeast Regional Championship

BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College women's cross country team captured the NCAA Northeast Regional title and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship on Saturday, November 10 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. PC ran away from the competition and registered 73 points, en route to the program's fifth Northeast Regional title all-time, and first since 2004. Stony Brook finished second in the team standings with 118 points. Junior Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan) won the individual title with a time of 20:28.

Junior Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) and sophomore Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) finished in the top-10. DiCamillo placed fourth (20:35.35), while Douglas finished the 6K course in a time of 20:53.95. Also scoring for the Friars was senior Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ontario) and sophomore Breffini Twohig (Dublin, Ireland). Childs finished 16th in a time of 21:17.30. Twohig placed 46th with a time of 21:53.35.

The top two teams at the NCAA Northeast Regional earn automatic berths to the NCAA Championship. The Friars will earned a spot at the NCAA's for the 19th time in program history. Last season, the Friars finished seventh at the NCAA Championships. PC has finished in the top-10 at NCAA's in 16 of its 18 trips. The 2007 NCAA Championship is scheduled for Monday, November 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
