The Providence College women's soccer team will close out their home schedule for 2007 with two BIG EAST games. The West Virginia Mountaineers will visit Providence on Friday, October 12th at 3:00 p.m. at Glay Field. On Sunday, October 14th, PC will celebrate Senior Day with the last home game of the season against the Pittsburgh Panthers. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. Coming off a crucial victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, the Friars will take the field hoping to further their chances at a BIG EAST Championship berth.

Rutgers visited Glay Field on Sunday, October 7th on a cloudy and cool day in Friartown. The Friars' sophomore forward Greta Houlihan (Belair, Md.) made her first start of the season and gave PC control early. Houlihan stole the ball deep in the Rutgers zone, beat a defender at the top of the box, and took a shot that went over the outstrecthed arms of Scarlet Knight goalkeeper Erin Guthrie into the back of the net. The goal was Houlihan's first as a Friar and put PC in the lead for good, 1-0. Senior goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) made nine saves in the contest to go along with her second shutout of the season. The Friars improved to 2-9-1 on the season and 1-4 in the BIG EAST Conference.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have had a very impressive season thus far. The Mountaineers have a 8-3-1 record overall and a 4-0-1 BIG EAST record which puts them tied for first in the American Division with UConn. WVU is led by reigining BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, Natalie Cocchi. The senior led her team to a 2-0 record this past weekend and scored the game winning goal in her team's 1-0 victory over the Louisville Cardinals on October 5. Cocchi anchors a defense that only allowed seven shots in their two weekend victories. The Mountaineers also boast the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week in sophomore Mallory Beck. Beck posted a pair of shutouts over the weekend to put her career total at five. WVU also has two of the top three points leaders in the BIG EAST with senior Ashley Banks in second with 20 points and junior Deana Everrett in third with 19 points.

The Pittsburgh Panthers visit Friartown on Sunday, October 14th with a 6-6-0 record, 1-4 in the BIG EAST. The Panthers went 0-2 with overtime losses to Cincinnati and Louisville this past weekend. The Panthers are led by sophomore Ashley Habbel who leads the team with four goals and three assists on the season. Junior Jennifer Kritch is second on the team with three goals on the season. Pitt has also had strong play from Liz Carroll and Janean Gardner who have two goals apiece. Sophomore Alison Finch has played well in front of the net for Pittsburgh this season with 54 saves and a 1.64 goals against average this season.

Providence will close out their season with four straight games on the road all in BIG EAST Conference action. The Friars will travel to South Bend, Indiana to take on the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish on October 19th at 7:30 p.m. and then to Chicago to take on the DePaul Blue Demons on Sunday, October 21st at 1:00 p.m. The Friars will then conclude the season with games at Syracuse on October 26th at 7:00 p.m. and will travel to St. John's for the season finale on Sunday, October 28th at 1:00 p.m.
