STORRS, Conn. -- The Providence College women's soccer team was dealt its first loss of the season as the 13th-ranked UConn Huskies defeated the Friars, 4-0, on Friday, September 15 in the BIG EAST opener at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. With the loss, the Friars fell to 2-1-3 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference. The Huskies improved to 3-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST.
Freshman Annie Yi scored the only goal the Huskies would need in the 12th minute as the Huskies led, 1-0 at halftime. UConn increased its lead in the second half scoring three goals, including two by sophomore Brittany Taylor. PC junior goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) made a career-high 10 saves to lead the Friars.
Providence is back in action on Sunday, September 17 with a non-conference match at Quinnipiac.
