BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Junior Matt O'Donnell (Armonk, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal to lift the Providence College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Northeastern on Friday, September 1 in Brooline, Mass.
Freshman Issam Sawtarie (Bethany, W. Va.) made a long service to a streaking O'Donnell whose header beat Northeastern goalkeeper Mahmoud Talaat in the 30th minute. That was all the Friars would need as they held on for the win. Senior goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.Y.) made six saves and earned his first shutout of the season as the Friars improved to 2-1. Talaat stopped six stops for the Huskies, who fell to 2-1.
Providence is back in action on Sunday, September 3 when they host the University of San Diego at 11:30 a.m. at PC's Glay Field.
