Providence Tennis Defeats Fairfield, 4-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Monday, April 17, the Providence College tennis team picked up their sixth win of the year with a 4-3 victory over Fairfield University. The Friars were led by senior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) and freshmen Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.), who paired up for a win at No. 1 doubles before going on to win their respective singles matches.
Providence claimed the doubles point with Bitetti and Rissolo defeating Megan Stauffer and Alexis Accomando at No. 1 (8-5) while junior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up an 8-4 win over Michelle Gellar and Tiffany Marsocci at No. 3.
The Friars went on to win three singles matches with Bitetti and Rissolo posting respective victories at No. 1 and No. 2 while sophomore Kate Lyons (Barrigton, R.I.) knocked off Tiffany Marsocci, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 4.
The Friars (6-11) return to action today, Tuesday, April 18, with a 3:00 p.m. match at in-state rival Rhode Island.
