Providence Women's Tennis Tops Monmouth, 7-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Saturday, October 7, the Providence College women's tennis team picked up its third win of the season with a 7-0 victory over Monmouth University.

In doubles action, sophomore Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and freshman Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) fell to Monmouth's Sarah Ragan and Ashleigh Johnson, 8-4, at first doubles. The teams at second and third doubles were victorious to secure the doubles point. Senior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) defeated Kaitlin Gallagher and Kristin McCormick, 8-2. The freshman duo of Dara Hawkins-Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio) and Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) defeated Monmouth's Laura Guliari and Kristen Hoffmann 8-2.

In singles action, Rissolo took the win at No. 1 singles, defeating Ragan (6-2, 6-1). Gilroy defeated Ashleigh Johnson at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-1). Schulz took the win at No. 3 singles, defeating Kaitlin Gallagher, (6-4, 7-5). Cohen had a good outing, defeating Monmouth's Guliari (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4 singles. Hawkins-Hodgson (No. 5 singles) and Cusack (No. 6 singles) continued the Friar victories, beating their opponents (7-5, 6-0) and (6-1, 6-0), respectively.

With the win, the Friars improve their record to 3-1. The Friars return to action on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 when they host Hartford. Action begins at 3:00 p.m.
