PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence women's tennis team held their third home match of the fall season on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 vs. the University of Hartford Hawks. The Friars prevailed, winning the match by a score of 7-0. The Friars took all singles and doubles contests.
In doubles action, sophomore Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield, Conn.) and senior Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) led the way for the Friars at first doubles, defeating Hartford's duo of Racquel Casino and Liz Weiner, 8-1. Sophomore Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and freshman Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) teamed up at second doubles, defeating Hartford's Kasey Michels and Michelle Tafur, 8-2. At third doubles, freshmen Dara Hawkins-Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio) and Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) won by default.
In singles play, Rissolo led the way at No. 1 spot, defeating Racquel Casino, 6-0, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, Gilroy defeated Kasey Michels, 6-2, 6-0. At third singles, Schulz defeated Hartford's Liz Weiner, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Cohen defeated Michelle Tafur, 6-0, 6-1, and Hawkins-Hodgsons topped Hartford's Duggels, 6-0, 6-1. Jen Cusack won by default at No. 6 singles.
With the win, the Friars conclude their fall dual contests with a 4-1 record. The Friars return to action on Saturday, October 14 when they travel to Fairfield, Conn. to compete in the New England Championships.
