PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team will look to return to its winning ways when it faces Pittsburgh in a BIG EAST Conference battle on Saturday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. at PC's Glay Field.

The Friars (8-3, 5-2 BIG EAST) enter Saturday's match after a 1-0 loss against the University of Connecticut on Tuesday, October 3 at Glay Field. The loss marked PC's first home BIG EAST defeat of the season and it marked the second time this season that the Friars were held scoreless. The Friars outshot the Huskies, 16-8, and held an 8-3 advantage on cornerkicks. PC had several chances to score late, but could not get the equalizer. Freshman Jonathan Medcalf (Tulsa, Okla.) leads the team in scoring with five goals, while junior Alex Bury (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore Kevin Neumen (Miller Place, N.Y.) have three goals and two assists each. In goal, senior Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) has started 10 of the 11 matches and has a 0.80 goals against average and a .830 save percentage.

The Friars are 7-8-1 all-time against the Panthers. Last season, PC posted a 1-0 victory over the Panthers as Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) scored early in the first half and the Friars held on for the win in Pittsburgh. In 2004, Pittsburgh defeated the Friars, 2-0, in Providence, R.I.

The Panthers (4-6-2, 3-2-1 BIG EAST) come into Saturday's match after a 3-0 home win versus Marquette on Sunday, October 1. Senior Mike Cunha, junior Matt Langton and freshman Orane Gordon each scored first half goals to lead Panthers. Pittsburgh was scheduled to play the fifth-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers on Wednesday, October 4, but the match was postponed because of inclement weather. Freshman Matt Baker leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists. In goal, senior Andy Jorgensen has played in seven matches and has posted a 0.67 goals average and a .875 save percentage.
