HANOVER, N.H. - Two players on the Providence women's tennis team traveled to Dartmouth College to compete in the ITA Division I Northeast Regional Singles and Doubles Championships on Friday, October 20-Sunday, October 22. Sophomore Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) took a win in singles action in the first round of 128 players. She defeated Emily Lewis from Drexel, 6-2, 6-0. Rissolo was then defeated in the second round of 64 players by Vanja Lakic from Niagara, 7-5, 6-3. Rissolo's win in the first round marks the first time a Providence player has won a round at the ITA Regionals since Providence standout Brooke Rubin won a round in the fall of 2001. Rissolo teamed up with freshman Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) for doubles play. The duo competed in the first round of 64 teams, but were defeated by Carolina Huignard and Ashley Lipton from Syracuse, 8-4. The play at the ITA Regionals concluded the fall season for the women's tennis team.
