Providence Women's Tennis Loses First Two Spring Matches

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Providence women's tennis team opened its spring season by traveling to Albany, N.Y. to compete against the University of Albany and St. Bonaventure University on February 9 and 10, respectively. The Friars were defeated, 6-1 by Albany and 4-3 by St. Bonaventure. Despite the losses, there were strong efforts put forth by many of the Providence players. Sophomore Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) had a win in the match vs. St. Bonaventure where she prevailed over Anna Perevezentseva, 6-4, 7-5. Freshman Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y.) put forth a great effort against her Albany opponent, Amanda Hall, but lost the third set in a tie-breaker. Freshman Jen Cusack (Bayport, N.Y.) went 4-0 on the weekend, winning two singles matches and two doubles matches. In addition, freshman Dara Hawkins-Hodgson (South Euclid, Ohio) went 3-1 over the weekend, winning two doubles matches and one singles match. After the losses over the weekend, the Friars start off their spring season with an 0-2 record. Their combined fall and spring record is 4-3. Next up for the Friars is a home meet vs. Rutgers on Saturday, February 17 at 6:30 p.m. The match will be played in Smithfield, R.I. at Rally Point Racquet Club.
