Nellie Poulin Named BIG EAST Offensive Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College freshman field hockey player Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) was named BIG EAST Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, October 23. She earns the weekly honor for the first time in her young career at Providence. Prior to earning the honor, she had been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice (Aug. 28 and Sept. 25). Sophomore defender Jessica Lane (South Windsor, Conn.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.

Poulin scored the game-winning goal in each of PC's victories last week. On October 18, Poulin scored the game winner 9:57 into overtime to help PC defeat Brown, 2-1, on Warner Roof in Providence, R.I. On October 22, Poulin recorded what proved to be the game winner in a 3-1 victory over 15th-ranked Villanova in BIG EAST play in Providence, R.I. Poulin's goal came with 43-seconds remaining in the first half to give PC a 2-0 cushion going into halftime.

Lane makes the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time this season after leading the Friars in an impressive defensive effort in wins against Brown and No. 15 Villanova. Lane and the the Friars held Villanova to just four shot attempts on October 22. The Wildcats entered the week averaging nearly 15 shots per game. In the two games combined, Lane helped hold Brown and Villanova to a total of 13 shots. Lane also got involved offensively against Villanova as she scored her second goal of the season. With the goal, she now has a single-season career best of six points on two goals and two assists.

Providence (15-3, 4-1 BIG EAST) completes its regular-season schedule this week with games against Rhode Island and Connecticut. The Friars and Rams will clash on Wednesday, October 25 in Kingston, R.I. at 3:00 p.m. PC concludes the regular-season schedule with a BIG EAST match-up against the Huskies at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m.
