Tennis Defeats Hartford, 6-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - In its first dual match of the season, the Providence College tennis team defeated Hartford, 6-1, on Sunday, September 25. The Friars won two-of-three doubles matches and five-of-six singles contests.
In doubles play, Providence's No. 1 duo, junior Jennifer Daigle (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and senior Sara Bitetti (Norwood, Mass.) picked up their fifth win of the season with an 8-1 defeat of Lauren Perry and Diana Stabers. At third doubles, freshmen Ashley Rissolo (Southport, Conn.) and Meghan Gilroy (Fairfield Conn.) also grabbed a win with a 9-7 defeat of Kasey Michels and Liz Weiner.
All but one of PC's singles victories came in straight sets, as Daigle knocked off Raquel Casino (6-1, 6-1) at No. 1 and Bitetti defeated Perry (6-3, 6-2) at No. 2. Rissolo tallied a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Werner at No. 4, while Gilroy beat Michels (6-4, 6-0) at No. 5. Finally, sophomore Kate Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) battled off Weiner at the sixth position, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Providence tennis (1-0) returns to action Thursday, September 29, when they travel to Holy Cross for a 3:00 p.m. match against the Crusaders.
