PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Rhode Island, 3-2, in overtime on Friday, September 16 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. Jeannie Records scored the game-winning goal 7:37 into overtime off a penalty corner. Records' shot was an aerial that dropped in behind PC's goalkeeper, assisted by Caitlin Rooney.

Rhode Island took a 1-0 lead in the first half as Christin Kazmierski scored on a penalty corner at the 28:41 mark. The goal was assisted by Kaeli Wickline. The Rams held PC scoreless in the first half, despite being outshot, 19-2.

In the second half, sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) connected on Providence's first goal 11:25 into play. Maguire's goal came as she collected a rebound off an intial shot by the Friars, which was saved by URI's keeper. At the 52:57 mark, Providence took a 2-1 lead as junior Emily Ewens (Vancouver, B.C.) connected on her third goal of the year. Maguire was credited with the assist as she fed Ewens a pass directly infront of the cage.

Providence seemed on its way to a 2-1 victory before URI tied the game with 1:25 left to play in regulation. Kazmierski netted the game-tying goal off an assist from Jamie Adams. In the first 15-minute overtime, Record tallied the game-winner with 7:37 showing on the clock.

The Friars outshot Rhode Island, 36-10 and held the advantage on penalty corners, 12-2. Of PC's 36 shots, 23 were on goal. URI had six shots on goal. M.J. Britt earned the victory for URI in the cage with 21 saves. Freshman Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) recorded three saves for PC.

Providence (2-5) returns to action on Sunday, September 18 against Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. The game is scheduled to begin at Noon.
