PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (2-4, 0-0 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team hosts in-state rival Rhode Island on Friday, September 16 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. Fourth-year head coach Diane Madl has guided the Friars to a 2-1 record versus Rhode Island since beginning her tenure in 2002. Last season, the Friars defeated Rhode Island, 3-1, in Kingston, R.I. The game against URI will mark the second night game of the season for PC, who has posted a 1-0 mark under the lights.

Leading the Friar offense through six games this season is sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn). She has compiled 11 points on five goals and one assist. Junior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) is second on the team in scoring with seven points (two goals, three assists), while senior Kati Lary (Canaan, N.H.) is third with six points (three goals). In her third season with the program, McGow is close to cracking the top-10 in career scoring at Providence. Prior to Friday's game against URI, McGow ranks 12th all-time at PC in career scoring with 65 points on 22 goals and 21 assists. She needs just one point to move into a tie for 11th all-time with former Friar great Paula Wagoner (66 points). McGow is six points shy of tying Carol Anne Byrne for 10th place all-time with 71 points. Lary is not far behind, as she has recorded 54 career points on 19 goals and 16 assists. Presently, Lary is tied for 16th all-time in scoring at PC.

In goal, freshman Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has played 401 minutes of action in six games. She ranks seventh in the nation in saves (50) and owns a 0.735 save percentage and a 3.14 goals against average. Ten of the 18 goals she has given up have come against two nationally ranked teams.
