Women's Tennis Taken Down by Red Storm

Providence, R.I. - On Saturday, April 16, Providence College hosted St. John's University in their fifth home match of the spring season. The Friars were defeated, 7-0.
In singles competition, Providence lost all six matches in straight sets. Senior Molly Gilbride (Topsham, Maine) was the only Friar to register any points, but still was defeated by her No. 2 opponent, 6-3, 6-0. Suffering 6-0, 6-0 losses were junior Sara Bitetti (Norwell, Mass.) at No. 1, sophomore Andrea Lee (Cumberland, R.I.) at No. 3, senior Lindsey Christensen (Northboro, Mass.) at No. 4, and freshmen Carly Hoffend (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Katherine Lyons (Barrington, R.I.) at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
In doubles play, Providence dropped all three matches, 8-2. Losses were credited to Bitetti and Gilbride at No. 1, Hoffend and freshmen Karla Ruggeri (Lincoln, R.I.) at No. 2, and Lee and sophomore Therese Griffin (Louisville, Ky.) at No. 3.
With the loss, the Friars fall to 3-10 on the spring season (9-11 overall). Providence tennis returns to action on Wednesday, April 20, when it hosts Hartford at 3:00 p.m. This will be PC's final match of the season, as the team will bid farewell to seniors Lindsey Christensen, Molly Gilbride, and Nicole Rodger.
