BRONX, N.Y. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Fordham, 64-60, at Rose Hill Gym in Bronx, N.Y. on Sunday, December 4. PC's Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) registered her fourth double-double of the season on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman Chelsea Marandola (Johnston, R.I.) added 19 points and a season-high five assists in the effort. Stacy Price netted 17 points for Fordham. Jada Jefferson registered a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards. Lisa Carrol connected on 16 points for the Rams and dished a game-high six assists.

In the first half, Forham started the game on a 9-0 run over the first 2:53 of action. Providence battled back to tie the game, 13-13, at the 10:16 mark on a 13-4 run. The Friars took their first lead of the game at the 8:24 mark (17-15) and held the lead the rest of the way. At the break PC held a 27-23 advantage. Marandola netted 10 first-half points for Providence. Fordham was led by Price's 10 points in the half. In the opening 20 minutes, the Friars out-rebounded Forham 23-19. Twelve of Providence's 23 boards in the half came on the offensive end and the Friars were able to convert 10 second-chance points.

Forham came out on fire in the second half and took the lead (35-29) on a 12-2 scoring run over the first five minutes of play. Carrol fueled the run with six points on two three-point baskets. The Friars called a timeout. Fordham came out of the timeout and extended it's lead to 10 points (39-29) before Danielle Howard put PC back on the board with a lay-up (39-31) at 13:49. Fordham pushed its lead to as many as 17 points (51-34) with 7:40 remaining. Providence closed the gap to four points (61-57) with 1:01 left in the game on a 23-10 run. The Friars got as close as three points (63-60) on three-point basket by Nwafili with seven seconds left, but Jefferson sealed the win, connecting on one-of-two free throws with four seconds left.

Providence (1-6) hosts No. 6/7 Rutgers in its 2005-06 BIG EAST Conference opener on Tuesday, December 6 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip is set for 7:05 p.m.
