PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College junior defenseman Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.) was named Women's HOCKEY EAST Player of the Month on December 1, 2005.
Gigliotti led Providence to a 5-3-1 month as she posted 11 points on six goals and five assists in nine games in November. Gigliotti is on a career-high 11-game scoring streak dating back to October 29, and enters this weekend on a five-game goal streak. She began the month with PC's only goal versus top-ranked St. Lawrence and scored at least one point in each game since. She scored a goal and and added an assist against Vermont on November 17 and Boston University on November 19. The junior defender went on to score a goal in each of the Ivy League games in a 3-1 win over Yale on November 25, a 5-3 win over Brown in the 11th annual Mayor's Cup on November 26, and a 6-3 loss to Harvard on November 30.
Gigliotti is second on the team in scoring with 18 points on nine goals and nine assists and second in the nation amongst defensemen averaging 1.29 points per game. She has 49 career points on 17 goals and 32 assists and is one point away from reaching the 50-point plateau.
Senior Ashley Payton (Chesterfield, Mo.) was named this month's runner-up as she poured in 12 points on five goals and seven assists, including two game-winning goals. Payton currently has 94 career points on 41 goals and 53 assists, and is six points away from the 100-point career milestone.
Providence will resume HOCKEY EAST play when they face off against Boston University on Saturday, December 3 at 3:00 p.m at the Walter Brown Arena in Boston Mass. On Sunday, December 4, the Friars face Boston College at 2:00 p.m. at Kelly Rink in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
