Women's Ice Hockey Loses to Dartmouth College, 2-1

PROVIDENCE R.I. -- The Providence College women's ice hockey team fell to Dartmouth College, 2-1, on Saturday, December 10 at PC's Schneider Arena. With the loss, the Friars fall to 9-6-2 overall but remain atop the HOCKEY EAST standings with a 6-2-1 mark.

After a scoreless first period, both teams ended the period with a six shots apiece. Carrie Thompson opened the night with a power play goal at 18:57 of the second period. Katie Gray recieved her fourth assist of the season on the play, while Julia Bronson earned her second of the year. At 7:04 of the third period, Shannon Bowman increased the Big Green lead to two with her fifth goal of the season. Tiffany Hagge earned her fourth assist of the season.

The Friars got on the board at 13:24 of the third period with a power play goal by sophomore Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich.). Freshman Erin Normore (Ontario, Canada) slapped the puck to senior Katelynn Laffin (Norwell, Mass.) for a shot 15 feet away from the net. Dartmouth's goaltender, Kate Lane, stopped the puck but Keilch gained the rebound for her third tally of the season.

Both teams went one-for-six on the power play, while Providence edged Dartmouth in shots, 24-22.

Senior netminder Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) recorded 20 saves in 57:46 minutes of action, while Kate Lane posted 23.

Providence will enjoy its holiday break before returning to action on Monday, January 2 when they face sixth-ranked Princeton. Face-off is slated for 7:00 p.m at the Hobey Baker Memorial Rink in Princeton, N.J.
